About the Course
⏱️ Time to Complete: Schedule a Vacation 🙂
I had the opportunity to run playback for two live TV specials recently. These events involved several artists, songs with lots of tempo changes, charts used by string and horn sections, and lots of nuances that required a lot from a playback perspective.
Course Overview: Chaotic Christmas and K-Love Event Review
I recorded the entire process of me formatting all the songs and building my sets in Ableton. So you can watch me through the whole thing, see me get frustrated, run into issues, and get it all ready for rehearsal and showtime.
I also review the gear I used, my approach to rehearsal and showtime, issues I ran into, lessons I learned, and what I’d do differently next time. I don’t think there’s another course out there like this, so I hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at running playback.
Who This Course Is For
This course is really for anyone who runs playback with Ableton. You’ll see what it takes to run playback for an event this large, what it takes to format songs with multiple tempo changes, and how the 3-part framework to running track applies in this context.
How The Course Is Set Up
- Preparing for the Events
- Event Recaps (Rehearsals, Showtimes, and Lessons Learned)
- Gear Rundown
- Over-My-Shoulder Videos
You can dive straight into the over my shoulder videos if you just want to see me working in Ableton. But if you’re interested in learning my thought process for the events, what I learned from the event, and the gear I used, then you can check that out as well.
